Chain Maille Jewelry Workshop by Karen Karon
I love this book so much I just had to tell you all about it...in fact I own two versions of this, hard copy and digital...that's how much I love it.
It's a great book for a beginner as well as an intermediate mailler.
Chain Maille Jewelry Workshop is a well laid out book, full of helpful information, lovely images, great designs and ideas.
There is the standard intro with some info on jump rings, making them, buying them, troubleshooting them and some information on tools used. It then leads you gently into mailling with some simple chains to make working you gently up to dragonscale. It shows you how to make simple chains, byzantine weaves, spiral weaves, european 4in1 weaves, parallel weaves, roundmaille, persian and dragonscale weaves. Not only do they show the basics of each family but variants and projects you can do. At the end there are some pointers on design and finally some (overly) helpful conversion tables.
The one thing I dislike about this book is that the instructions are drawn images, myself I think it is easier to recreate a weave from photos, you can see the rings being placed, how they are being held...all helpful stuff when you are mailling. If you don't mind that one thing then you will be in heaven.
Due to a lack of demand we no longer stock books in our store, but as I said I like this one a lot so we have a couple (2) of copies to give away to our readers.
Please leave a comment below if you are interested in winning one of the copies we have. Your name will be pulled out randomly so it's anyone's game! I'm not going to make it compulsory that you write a certain type of comment....but if you have a joke (keep it clean), a little ditty or a funny story to tell I'm always appreciative of such things. But you must leave us a comment here below, we will not
accept email entries nor entries via our facebook page.
The winners will be drawn and announced on Tuesday 9th April 2013 (Aussie Time) and we will announce it both here and via email.
