Chain Maille ... No Longer Just For Knights

There are many different necklace lengths.  Choosing the correct size can help you frame your face and add to your outfit.

We have had such fun running our 12 Day of Christmas Sale in previous years we have decided to do it all again. Basically, starting on the 1st December 2015 each day for 12 days there will be a new sale.  The sale is good for one 24hr period only, running midnight to midnight Australia Eastern Daylight Savings time. To snag that particular sale item you must purchase it on it's set day. You can nominate to roll over your orders if you wish to take advantage of more than one sale but only wish to pay one lot of shipping.  Orders will be held until you tell us to release them (or the end of the sale period whichever comes first).  You must tell us with the first order though so we can organise this for you....otherwise you will be charged shipping on each order. Sales run as the list in the image below.  Sales will be not valid for any items already on sale or package deals.

Have you always wanted to learn chain maille and didn't know where to start ? ......or is there a weave that is proving tricky ? Then come along to our chain maille workshops run by Aussie Maille in the beautiful Blue Mountains.

Currently classes run once a month with two workshops available on the day.

    • 1st Workshop runs from 9am to 12noon. Morning tea will be provided.

    • 2nd Worksop runs from 1pm to 4pm.  Afternoon tea will be provided.

Feel free to book into one or both

I thought I would put up something a little useful (at least I hope it is). I used to keep a folder of similar type worksheets, sometimes attached to the relevant tutorial.  A lot of my records are now on the computer, but if you are a pen to paper type person this might be of some use to you. Download the file (pdf so you will need something like adobe acrobat to open it) and print out as many times as you need it.  A great way to record the weaves you have done, materials used, ring counts, etc.  It takes all the guess work out if you decide to replicate your pieces.  Also handy for those pieces you are planning on doing.  You can plan your work out and all that information is there for you when you are ready to start. Couldn't be simpler! Cheers Deb Download Worksheet

Romanov is a Byzantine Variant.   Each Rosette is made up of two units of byzantine, sandwiching a bead.   Single units make great earrings.

You will need to know how to put a bead onto an eye pin and create an unwrapped loop on the other end.

Chain Maille Jewelry Workshop by Karen Karon

I love this book so much I just had to tell you all about it...in fact I own two versions of this, hard copy and digital...that's how much I love it.

It's a great book for a beginner as well as an intermediate mailler.

Chain Maille Jewelry Workshop is a well laid out book, full of helpful information, lovely images, great designs and ideas.

There is the standard intro with some info on jump rings, making them, buying them,

OPENING RINGS

To keep the rings round, you will need to twist the ends open; never simply pull them apart. If you do pull the ends away from each other, it is very difficult, if not impossible, to get the ring to lie flat.

You will need to hold the ring with the cut ends in the 12 o'clock position and have the ring firmly grasped on either side. Try and cover as much of the ring with your pliers as possible to avoid twisting the ring out of shape. One end of the ring is pulled toward you

The shaggy weave is a fun weave that you can use just rings, beads or scales like in this tutorial.  You can make earrings, bracelet or necklaces.......it's a great weave to start with.

Most importantly, have fun with it.

Required Materials:
14G (1.6mm) 6.35mm(1/4”)ID Anodized Aluminium Jump Rings x 8
Small Anodized Aluminium Scales x 16
