I'm totally new to Maille, what weave should I try first?

Although there are no hard and fast rules, there are a couple of weaves that are considered a good place for new maillers to start.

Byzantine

A weave that looks intricate but is quiet easy to do...wow your friends with your skills!

Used to make the armour for knights of old this is a very popular weave that can have a varied look depending on the rings chosen.

Japanese 12in2

This is weave that isn't too difficult to do, but due to the small rings and the large amount of work needed it can be a bit intimidating for a new mailler. Japanese 12in2 is a versatile weave that can make some stunning pieces.
